Stories are part of who we are. Each event, each scenario and each person plays an important role in our interpretation, understanding and reasoning of the world. We are not isolated subjects who form themselves; we are shaped within a culture, a society, a language and a particular environment. Questions like who I am, where I come from and who I want to become require a past, a story, an account...
In my childhood, I had heard only one story. One that I had to understand as true without questioning, because it was the one that integrated me and gave meaning to my community. However, other stories whispered in my ear, which came out of any filter and became an escape from reality. Those who heard them thought I had lost my mind, that I was lying to them, or they were treating me as someone with a curious imagination. I faced enough challenges not to let those stories be silenced, although I wanted them to disappear; they were part of who I was, and it would be catastrophic to lose myself in the process.
Writing turned out to be a safe space in which I could explore many ways of being and thinking; it gave life to ideas, thoughts and feelings. Literature helped me share my stories and not feel isolated from the rest. It was opening to a world of possibilities. On the other hand, when I began my path in the historical discipline, the bases of my stories were strengthened and the vision that I had until then of both our present and our past was expanded. I understood that he was not the only one who had gone through a divergence of interpretations or even a process of censorship and devaluation of his speech. There is an enormous wealth in our history; at the same time, a responsibility for the societies we build and the way we project ourselves.
In Montaña Lobo, I intend to give a space for debate, support and manifestation to all those expressions that float in the world of ideas to be presented to those who wish to be part of them.
